The Committee organized an Orientation Programme in the “use of mediation in resolution of matrimonial disputes” for the benefit of Police Officers deputed in Crime Against women Cell in Delhi on Saturday, May 31, 2008. The event was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ajit Prakash Shah, Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi and Shri Y.S.Dadwal, Commissioner of Police, Delhi also graced the occasion.
The purpose behind the Programme was to familiarize the Police Officers in the basics of mediation, its benefits to the parties and the factors that would weigh in their mind while referring the criminal complaints to the Committee for resolution by mediation. The Officers were given an orientation as to how they would tackle and control the anger, emotions and outburst of the parties in persuading them for amicable settlement rather than going for a painful litigation. 47 Officers from Delhi Police of the rank of Addl. DCP, ACPs, Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors participated in the Programme and got benefited in the Orientation Programme.
The ‘resource persons’ in the Orientation Programme were Judicial Officers/Trained Mediators, Psychologist and the sessions were interactive and conscious efforts were made that Officers of the Police who are otherwise doing a good job, may improve their working methods and create such kind of environment at the threshold that the parties do not proceed to institute several litigations against each other.
The Programme was a grand success and we hope that in future we shall have more such Programme.
